Breaking News: FSU Football Legacy Duce Robinson Is A NOLE!
The 6'6" 230lb WR is as close to a perfect grab as you could dream up and a gigantic catch for Gus Malzahn and Tim Harris.
Florida State got some great news today as former USC wide receiver Duce Robinson has elected to transfer to Florida State. Duce Robinson is the son of former FSU wide receiver Dominic Robinson. The FSU diehards know that D-Rob hailed from Diamond Bar, California and was part of an era where Florida State cherry-picked top national recruits.
However, Duce actually grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and played his high school ball at Pinnacle High. Unsurprisingly, Arizona State which is located in nearby Tempe was a major contender for his services and rightly so. This is an impressive pull for this coaching staff given that Arizona State is having its best season in over twenty years. Arizona State as you recall made it into the College Football Playoff, plus won the Big12 championship in only Kenny Dillingham’s second season on the job.
Duce played in 23 games for the USC Trojan the past two years for a total of 39 catches for 747 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also averaged about 20 yards per catch. 400 of those yards and 5 of those touchdowns came this year as USC insiders said that Duce was beginning to emerge as a high-level player.
Duce’s PFF grade also showed promise. Robinson graded out at 74.3 overall for the season, and at 74.1 for his receiving grade. There is room for improvement with his run blocking grade at 64.3. It is my expectation that the run blocking will improve due to playing for an offense that emphasizes the run.
I was encouraged by what I read from folks close to USC’s program about Duce’s emergence down the stretch. Florida State could be very well getting a player who is peaking at the right time. Duce’s physical talent truly stands out above the rest when compared to the rest of the receiver room.
Duce’s size, speed, and athleticism for his size ought to keep many a defensive coordinator up at night. This is a player who can line up in a variety of ways on offense and is capable of being a matchup nightmare for whoever is defending against him. He is just what the doctor ordered for this offense and would immediately change the math when looking at what the 2025 Florida State Seminoles could achieve.
An outstanding job to this offensive staff for landing a player of this caliber who can be an immediate difference maker for this football program.
