An hour ago, On3 and 247sports reported that DJ Lundy withdrew from the transfer portal and was expected to return to Tallahassee. DJ Lundy confirmed their report and has officially announced that he is returning to Florida State for his final season of eligibility. This is absolutely huge for FSU and helps alleviate what was expected to be a major weakness on the 2024 roster. Before Lundy decided to return, the linebacking corps had some major questions.
Florida State reached out to multiple linebacker prospects in the transfer portal but unfortunately came up empty for many reasons beyond the staff’s control. Some of the prospects unfortunately ran into eligibility concerns, and one ended up going to a school that finished second in his high school recruitment. I believe the staff decided their best option was to reach out to Lundy to see if he would return.
Their pitch worked as DJ Lundy decided to return to Tallahassee for his final season. Lundy has steadily improved throughout his career and had his best season last year with a 77.6 overall grade according to Pro Football Focus. In particular, he posted a 90.9 grade in run defense and a 84.1 grade in tackling. Kudos to the coaching staff for reaching out and bringing Lundy back into the fold. I still believe Florida State will attempt to take a linebacker transfer, but getting Lundy back is massive in terms of where the defense can be next fall.
Wise choice!
I guess everyone deserves a second chance, but this is a tough one for guys &fans who stuck around.hope he has to compete to get back on the field.
