FSU Football | ESP Day 1 Initial Reactions
Florida State signed a very good class despite the Bolden flip and missing on Jeremiah Smith.
First, let’s address the elephant in the room. Florida State losing KJ Bolden on a signing day flip hurts. There is no sugarcoating or denying that. I also hate it for the coaching staff they were not able to flip Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State. There is certainly a real conversation to be had on the recruiting prowess of certain assistant coaches.
All of that said, Florida State has plenty of reasons to be happy with the class they have brought in so far. Florida State arguably signed its best defensive back room in some time even without Bolden. Charles Lester, Cai Bates, and Jamari Howard should be competing for snaps from the moment they step on campus. Their length and fluidity will help Florida State’s defense defend even the most vaunted passing attacks.
The #Tribe24 wide receiver room also has a chance to be special. Elijah Moore has the potential to be a matchup nightmare in the red zone with his size and hands. Lawayne McCoy is a deep threat waiting to happen with his long speed. BJ Gibson is an incredible athlete who will carve out a niche somewhere in the offense. Camdon Frier will affectionately remind people of his father as a slot receiver with a knack for getting open.
I haven’t even mentioned FSU signing a highly regarded QB in Kromenhoek, and two blue chip running backs in Davis and Danzy. The former is good enough to get carries as a true freshman, and the latter is the heir apparent to Douglas.
Coach Atkins also signed four high quality offensive linemen who can be developed into difference makers. DD Holmes is a nice blue chip prospect for the defensive linemen.
The bottom line is, there is a lot to celebrate from this class so far. Not to mention there are still some unsigned recruits out there we are competing for. As the saying goes, don’t let be the enemy of good.
