Jared Verse first came onto Florida State’s radar watching and analyzing film ahead of a matchup with Syracuse. The guy just absolutely jumped off the screen and when his Division Two Albany Great Danes took on Garrett Schrader and then Syracuse Orange he was the best player on the field from either side. The biggest moment on that film was when Syracuse All ACC running back Sean Tucker got the edge and scampered down field only for the flanked Verse to hawk him down and make the tackle!
‘The simplest way to say it is that Florida State is back” Jared Verse
Everyone was happy but also scared of all of the “we’re back” talk as it has been quite the roller coaster of emotions the past decade. With Verse’s return now in the bag I’m pretty damn close proclaiming the Noles to be “Back” myself. Not just him this has been an insane time as the NIL and transfer portal era has made the clear statement that they are here to stay, Mike Novrvell is right at home.

The Battle’s End collective has done nothing short of spectacular work in a very short amount of time. Time in the public eye of course as I’m sure they have been operating/ preparing for December the fifth and the following fourty-five days for quite some time. As amazing as they have been, along with the piece of mind these deals brings not being lost on me, Mike Norvell and this coaching staff created the culture within their program to facilitate the ‘want” to necessary for it to happen.
"He has this program on the right track and people will see that soon” Jermaine Johnson before the 2022 season.
This all started back in 2019 when Florida State announced Norvell as their next head coach. For the sake of thisnconversation mets skip a year to the part where Mike talks Jermaine Johnson to leave the future dynastic defense he was a lart of to come join three and six Florida State. For reference FSU lost to Miami by about fourty that year. I believe Jermaine was a big part of their rotation and had five and a half sacks in 2020 but it just wasnt enough.
Jermaine Johnson had one hell of a field to sew in order to reap the benefits he has now. He came from the Juco ranks with a bit of Last Chance U fame. Not for the same reason as the rest of the kids that first year the cameras followed coach Jason Brown. Jermaine was the heart and soul of the team in terms of on field play. He did not participate in any stsge shenanigans or real life troubles like the majority of names you learn his coach included. He did do one thing though, he carried that team on his back and absolutely dominated that league and earned a full ride to the surging University of Georgia Bulldogs

Jermaine would spend his sophomore and junior seasons at UGA and then enter the transfer portal following 2020’s “Covid-19” year. After that he had a conversation with Mike Norvell he had made up mind to come to Florida State. The word you will hear the national media use is band-aid. I’m here to tell ya that isn’t the message sent to Jermaine that day. He sold him on being a part of something bigger than himself. Mike let Johnson know believed he could come in and immediately command respect from his teaammates. His work ethic, leadership, and ability were missing from his locker room and Jermaine could provide that. He told him if he did he would be right there for all the awards and be a first round pick in the NFL.
Turn’s out Norvell was absolutely right about Jermaine, maybe a bit faster than even he predicted mind you. Then after all of that success and departing for the NFL he wasn’t done affecting the culture and locker room at Florida State. He had an extremely productive call with a younger defensive end in a similar situation to his own the previous year. While I’m sure Norvell sold him a similar pitch to Verse, and the progress was starting to show on the field, Jermaine’s endorsement won Florida State that recruitment.
From a transfer defensive end with a hand full of D1 sacks in two years at Georgia into a no doubt first round pick after one year at FSU earned him Ace recruiting status. Jared Verse arrived on campus ditching the Great Danes of Albany, New York for the Unconquered Seminoles of Florida State University! The rest was history as they have been known to say.

Just like Deja Vu here we sit one year after Jared Verse let Jermaine Johnson talk him into becoming a Seminole. Things are a little bit different this go round as Verse isnt at the draft helping convince his replacement to sign the dotted line. No this year Mike Norvell, the coaching staff, the players, Ingram Smith , and The Battle’s End all worked in harmony to convine him to come back for one more year. Jared Verse is coming back for everything. Hes coming for the number one overall pick, the ACC Title, The College Football Playoff but hes coming back because he wants to be here. He wants to be a part of the family and culture that Mike Norvell has created.
