FSU Football: Position Spotlight | Tight-End
With two big additions and recruiting likely done for C/O 2023 at the position we look at scholarship counts, possible transfers and more.
Chris Tomsen get his Christmas presents early
Kyle Morlock | D2 Shorter University | 6’ 7” 250 pound TE/WR Hybrid
The Division two product shocked Nole Nation and the collective nation alike by committing Thursday afternoon. Kyle called Mike Norvell while sitting in his living room with his family, to let the Seminoĺe’s head coach know he was indeed coming to Tallahassee to stay. While other schools sold immediate playing time and carrying offenses on his 6’ 7” 250 pound frame; FSU had a different approach according to Morlock. Norvell sold him on consistancy, a role in the offense catered to his strengths, and a veteran like Jaheim Bell to lean on as he makes a giant transiton from division two Shorter University to an ACC Title and College Football Playoff contender. Kyle picked the Noles because of Norvell’s honesty and commitment to developing him into the player and man he wants to be. One more addition before we look at the numbers.

Jaheim Bell | USCe Junior | 6’ 3” 232 Pound Tight-end Transfer |
Jaheim Bell pretty much was the South Carolina offense the past two years. He was such a force teams started focusing on taking him out of the passing game. Unfortunately for Bell this worked and Beamer’s offensive staff either couldn’t or wouldn’t scheme their best player open or just get him the ball; at all. Finally the last two games that changed when they lined him up at RB and just handed him the ball. Lo and behold their offense found life and they won their last two. It wasn’t enough though and Mike Norvell has yet another playmaker for what shapes up to be a historic Nole’s offense.

Full Tight-end Room Roster & Scholarship Break Down
Jaheim Bell | Redshirt Junior | Career: 56 receptions for 757 yards and 7 TDs 80 rushes for 301 yards and 3 TD’s
Kyle Morlock | Sophomore | Shorter career: 808 yards and 11 TD’s
Markeston Douglas | Redshirt Sophomore | had 10 receptions for 140 yards and 1 TD in 2022
Jerrale Powers | Redshirt Freshman | No stats
Jackson West | Redshirt Sophomore | No stats
Brian Courtney | Sophomore | Had 1 catch 12 yards
That makes six scholarship tight-ends two of which are brand new additions but will immediately jump to the front. In Bell’s case immediately while Kyle Morlock eases his way up there still. The culture Norvell and TE’s Coach Chris Thomson have established should ease the transition. Be that as it may of these six tight-ends attrition will likely strike one or two. Florida State currently holds no commitment from any 2023 high school players. If a TE decides to enter the portal they will have until January 18th to find a new home or they will have to wait until the fifteen day post spring transfer portal period from May first to the fifteenth.
Worth Mentioning
Wyatt Rector | Redshirt Senior |
While Rector technically could have used his Covid-19 year of eligibility. He walked for Senior day festivities for what appeared to be his final game at Doak Campbell Stadium. Wyatt showed up as a walk-on quarterback, no offer, but an iron will and a coach for a father, he would not be denied. By 2022 he had switched positions and bulked up into a real 2 deep player and H-Back to Camren McDonald’s more recieving tight-end spot. Rector bought in 100% to Norvell’s CLIMB and was a key player in the culture reset. The Renegade Report wishes Rector success at every avenue! What a sweet Momma he has as well, we couldn’t leave out Mrs. Annie
