FSU football: #Tribe 24 gets an Ivy-educated lineman in Jacob Rizy
Coaching staff find a diamond in the rough for the offensive line.
Coach Mike Norvell and his staff have excelled in recent years finding diamonds in the rough. Today they have done so yet again with former Harvard offensive tackle Jacob Rizy electing to commit to the #Climb.
No I’m not kidding. Rizy is really from Harvard, and was a two-year starter for the Crimson at left tackle. This a good take for FSU for multiple reasons.
According to PFF, Rizy grades out at 74.6 and 76.3 for the 2023 and 2022 seasons. His 2022 campaign saw him put up solid numbers as both a run blocker(74.1) and a pass blocker(74.5). Last season, his run blocking dipped(67.4) while his pass blocking became very good(80.4).
Rizy looks like a solid player who has shown a particular strength for pass protection. I expect that he will pick up the system quickly, and that Coach Storms will get him physically ready for the step up in competition.
My prediction is that he will carve out a role as a swing tackle. It is essential to have as many playable bodies on the offensive line due to the physical nature of the position. I believe that Rizy is up to the task.
Good job to the coaching staff for continuing to assemble the best roster they possibly can for the upcoming season.
