Fresh off of landing Top50 overall Edge Javion Hilson in the class of 2025, the FSU coaching staff wasted no time in adding another blue-chip edge, four star Amaree Williams out of Palm Beach, FL. Williams was originally slated to be a 2025 recruit, but has opted to re-classify to the 2024 class.
Williams is an intriguing prospect for Florida State for many reasons, not the least of which is his NFL bloodlines. His father Moe Williams was a standout running back for the University of Kentucky, and played in the NFL for ten seasons. Amaree also stands out for being a multi-sport athlete who has also done well in track and field. At the Florida state 1A track meet Williams placed 5th in the high jump and 12th in the 100-meter dash as a sophomore. He was also a part of a 4 x 100 team that captured third at the state level.
As impressive as Amaree’s track accomplishments are, his football skills have the highest potential. He played both ways for the Benjamin School as a wide receiver and a defensive end. Williams recorded 34 tackles this past season with 8 going for a loss. He also recorded four sacks with two fumble recoveries, and even intercepted a pass.
Amaree’s receiving statistics are just as impressive with 16 receptions for 424 yards and seven touchdowns. His positional versatility is a major plus for Florida State as the coaching staff tries to figure out the best position to maximize his talent.
The recruiting insiders and scouts believe that Amaree’s highest ceiling as a player is an edge position and I don’t disagree. Williams flashes many of the traits that comprise elite edge rushers. He is extremely fluid in space and rarely gets caught out of position. Williams also has flash the ability to dip and bend plus close gaps. He also flashes the ability to attack the corner. While he will need to learn the art of hand fighting as an edge, that is coachable and the track record of Coach Papuchis speaks for itself thus far.
Williams also shows the ability to profile as a jumbo receiver or maybe even a tight end. He plays above his pad level, and even shows an ability to evade defenders with the ball in his hand.
Williams’s athletic traits will almost guarantee that he makes an impact somewhere. How he takes to the strength and conditioning program under Coach Storms will ultimately be the deciding factor for where he ends up on the field. Williams is an elite piece of clay for the coaching staff to mold, and is an excellent acquisition. There is a brand new wave in college football and no one is riding it higher than Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles.
