Florida State has been on an absolute tear in transfer portal recruiting, and that continues with the commitment of Jaylin Lucas. The former Indiana running back and return specialist will no doubt be an instant favorite of Coach Norvell. Why do you ask? Speed, speed, and more speed. Per the Daily Hoosier, former Indiana coach Tom Allen stated that Lucas ran a 4.33 40- yard dash last spring. He also ran track in high school with a 10.64 100- meter dash aided by wind, and a wind-legal 11.1 100-meter time after that. Needless to say, Lucas will likely be the fastest player on the team the moment he steps on campus.
Lucas made an immediate impact the moment he stepped on the campus of the University of Indiana. He returned two kickoffs for scores in 2022, and subsequently was awarded first team All-American honors. Lucas also showed that he was not just a return specialist with multiple scores of 70 yards or more. He is an absolute threat to score every time he touches the ball.
I expect that he will be used very similarly to his brother in a role that will get him touches as a runner and a receiver. Not to mention, he will seamlessly slide into the role of return specialist. This is a good get for Coach Norvell and his staff. I for one cannot wait to see how he is used in the offense.
