Tate Enters the Portal
FSU quarterback Tate Rodemaker decides to test the transfer portal waters.
For Florida State fans, this bowl season has been nothing but a string of bad news. Unfortunately, it has not gotten better. Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports is reporting that Tate Rodemaker is electing to enter into the transfer portal. Additionally, Tate has opted out of the playing in the Orange Bowl.
I’m sure FSU heavily recruiting both DJU and Cam Ward out of the portal played a factor in Tate’s decision. The starting job was not going to be guaranteed to him and this is an opportunity for him to play elsewhere and be QB1.
While some may question the timing of the move, I understand why Tate had to make this move. The compressed recruiting and transfer portal calendar has forced kids to make a decision about their future much sooner than they want to.
I will remember Tate, and how he managed to always seem to step up when we needed him to. He got thrown into a horrible situation against North Alabama. FSU was down by two scores and Jordan Travis had just suffered a season ending injury. Tate showed poise and managed to help Florida State score 58 unanswered points. He battled adversity and a slow start against Florida. Tate helped us finish the season undefeated even after getting his bell rocked.
Of course, his finest moment may have come in the 2022 game against Louisville. Once again, he was thrown into a less than ideal spot. Jordan Travis suffered an injury and he was thrown into the line of fire.
Tate responded by leading Florida State to three 75-yard second half scoring drives, and willing Florida State to victory. This win allowed Florida State to keep gaining momentum in order to land some high-level HS talent.
All of us at the Renegade Report wish Tate Rodemaker all the best at his future program.
