Florida State continues to put in work recruiting the transfer portal as former Alabama offensive lineman. Terrance Ferguson has elected to transfer to Florida State. This is a huge commitment for FSU, both literally and figuratively. Ferguson is a 6-4 322-pound former top 100 recruit, and has extensive snaps playing in the SEC.
Offensive coordinator Alex Atkins liked him a lot coming out of high school and was aggressively recruiting him to Florida State. Unfortunately, he was only able to take a visit in March 2020 and we all know what happened next. Ferguson ended up at Alabama, but Atkins continued to maintain a relationship with him. Coach Atkins’s work has paid off as I believe we have an excellent piece of clay to work with whose best football still lies ahead.
Ferguson played in a rotational role with Alabama and according to Pro Football Focus his overall grade was 61.9 for the 2023 season. Ferguson did particularly well in pass blocking as his grade was 80.3 on the season. There is room for improvement on his run blocking with a 57.7 grade for the season. However, he is in a similar position to many of FSU’s current offensive linemen as they struggled with run blocking at times this season.
I believe he will have a good chance to start, and with more reps he will become a better overall offensive lineman. This is an excellent pick up for FSU and bolsters the depth for the position group overall.
it is imperative for FSU to have at least 8 offensive lineman that are capable of playing solid snaps so that the coaches have flexibility when injury strikes. Now with Ferguson in the fold, Mike Norvell and the rest of the offensive staff are well on their way to achieving the kind of success they hope to have in 2024.
